Semantic roles have long played a major role in all domains of linguistic explanation on account of their undisputed suitability as interface representations between syntax and semantics. From various perspectives, researchers have attempted to define the concept of a semantic role and its interaction with other grammatical domains. However, insights from one subdiscipline have only rarely been used to advance the knowledge in other linguistic fields. By focusing on semantic roles and argument linking from the perspectives of grammatical theories, language typology, psycho-/neurolinguistics and language disorders, the present volume sows the seeds for a new degree of cross-fertilisation in this important linguistic domain.
